Tamna Festival 2010

Just after Chuseok Korea's equivalent of Thanksgiving the Tamna festival takes place. This year (2010) it lasted from October 1st to the 5th. It's to celebrate Tamnaguk or "island country" the ancient name of Jeju which was ruled for over a thousand years by the Tamna kingdom until it was taken over by the Joseon dynasty in the 15th century. In Seogwipo it takes place at the Cheonjiyeon Waterfall Square where tents were set up exhibiting tradtional arts and crafts, painting, traditional hat weaving with horse hair, food along with traditional costumes, performances, Shamanist and Buddhist rituals, plays and ceremonies.
